Hyderabad, Dec 23: The sanctioning of Rs.2.45 crore for providing basic infrastructure for a congregation of Tablighi Jamaat scheduled to be held in Telangana’s Vikarabad district next month has sparked a row with the BJP trying to draw political mileage by criticising the Congress party.
The saffron party has questioned the new Congress government over the sanctioning of the funds for a religious congregation.
The Minorities Welfare Department recently issued an order sanctioning the money for certain works in connection with state-wide ijtema of Tablighi Jamaat.
The ijtema is scheduled to be held from January 6 to January 8 at Neamath Nagar in Pargi mandal of Vikarabad district.
The amount was sanctioned for undertaking certain works for civic amenities like providing water and construction of a sump, laying of pipeline, parking area, erecting transformers for uninterrupted power supply.
The Chief Executive Officer of Telangana State Wakf Board has been directed to release funds to Vikarabad district collector for execution of works immediately.
However, the BJP found fault with the government’s action. Its general secretary and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar termed the sanctioning of funds as ‘pure evil’ and ‘outrageous’. He even demanded that the government immediately withdraw permission for the meeting.
Alleging that the organisation is involved in forced conversions and also in terror activities, he sought action against the officials who issued the order.
“Does the newly elected government of Revanth Reddy know this? What are intelligence agencies doing? What do you want to do to Telangana with Tukde Tukde gang?,” asked Sanjay Kumar.
“Congress government claims that the state is bankrupt but is funding a program organised by Tablighi Jamaat, which promotes terrorism and the spread of Islam,” said Sanjay, who is known for making provocative statements.
The BJP leader alleged that during Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the main reason for the spread of the virus in India was Talighi Jamaat’s congregation.
“This organisation’s entry into Telangana in the name of gatherings and meetings is leading to many suspicions, that too at a time when the corona virus is spreading in India again,” said the BJP MP.
The BJP leader demanded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take action against the officials involved in giving permission for the meeting and also in sanctioning the funds.
BJP MLA T. Raja Singh has also criticised the Congress government for allocating a ‘staggering’ Rs.2.45 crores for a Tablighi Jamaat meeting.
He wondered why Congress was embracing an organization banned in several countries, including Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Saudi Arabia? “Tablighi Jamaat’s controversial teachings have led to prohibition in these nations, Congress government’s red-carpet welcome and consistent support for such extremist ideologies raise questions about the party’s priorities and motives,” he said.
