Marking Gandhi Jayanti, SEEKH Foundation organized a Cleanliness Drive at the Yamuna bank, Dhobi Ghat community, Batla House, Okhla, New Delhi. The initiative aimed to address the severe sanitation and hygiene issues faced by over 7,000 residents, who live in unsanitary conditions that expose them to health risks such as waterborne diseases.
The cleanliness drive, focused on improving the overall environment of the community, brought together 13 other organizations, including Janman People Foundation, Enactus JMI, Jamia Way, UBA Jamia Hamdard, Parwaaz-e-Shaheen, Aaghaaz-e-Taleem, Khidmat Child Foundation, Adhikaaar Foundation, TPR India Foundation, SACRD, 180 Degree Jamia, Hamaari Sada Trust, and Gurucool. The initiative was generously sponsored by Tribro Infra, ensuring that resources were available to make the event a success.
Nearly 100 participants, including volunteers and local residents, joined forces for the clean-up operation, which began early in the morning. The focus was on clearing streets, unclogging drains, and removing accumulated waste that had caused pollution in the area.
Cleaning kits, gloves, masks, and sanitizers were provided to ensure safety of the volunteers as they worked together to make a tangible difference. Local residents were also educated about the importance of proper waste disposal and hygiene practices to help sustain the efforts of the drive.
After the clean-up, all waste collected was responsibly disposed of, ensuring that immediate results of the sanitation drive were impactful for the long-term health and cleanliness of the area. This initiative contributed directly to several Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well-Being, Clean Water and Sanitation, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action, by improving public health, promoting responsible waste management, and fostering a cleaner and more sustainable living environment.
