Gaza on Brink of Escalation as Israel Threatens to Violate Ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has escalated tensions by threatening an all-out war in Gaza if Hamas does not release all Israeli captives by Saturday noon. Following a four-hour security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu declared that the Israeli military would resume intense attacks on Gaza, despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.
In a video statement, Netanyahu expressed outrage over the condition of three released captives, blaming Hamas while ignoring Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza. He announced that Israeli forces had been ordered to mobilize around Gaza, signaling a potential violation of the fragile truce. His statement aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump’s demand for an immediate release of captives and his vision for Gaza’s future, a stance that has drawn criticism for disregarding Palestinian rights.
Hamas, which has been mediating the hostage-prisoner exchange, condemned Israel’s threats and accused it of violating the truce. A Hamas spokesperson stated that the group remains committed to the ceasefire agreement, but Israel’s non-compliance is causing delays in the exchange process.
According to reports, Israeli officials have warned that negotiations for further exchanges will not progress unless all remaining captives are released in the coming days. However, Hamas maintains that Israel has failed to uphold its commitments, creating obstacles to a peaceful resolution.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has been placed on high alert, with leave for combat soldiers postponed, signaling preparations for renewed aggression against Gaza. The situation remains critical as Israel pushes toward an escalation, further endangering Palestinian civilians.
