Gender Equality Key to Development, Says Prof. Amirullah Khan at MANUU Event

Hyderabad: Gender-based discrimination has no place in a civilized and developed society, said renowned economist and Telangana Public Service Commission member, Professor Amirullah Khan. Speaking at an awards ceremony organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies and the Department of Women’s Education at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), he emphasized that true development is only possible in societies that uphold women’s rights.
Held under the theme “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment,” the event featured speech competitions in Urdu, Hindi, and English. Winners received cash prizes and certificates, with law student Abid Raza securing first place in Urdu, Aliya Naz in Hindi, and Maria Suri in English.
MANUU Registrar, Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed, highlighted the university’s growing success in national competitions under Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ainul Hasan. Professor Shahida, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, stressed the importance of women’s education and equal nutrition for girls.
The event, conducted by Dr. Tabrez Hussain, saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and university staff. As part of International Women’s Day celebrations, MANUU continues its efforts to promote gender equality through academic and social initiatives.
