Ghalib Institute and The Deccan Muslim Institute, Pune Organize Ghalib Celebration

Pune – On the occasion of the 155th death anniversary of Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib, a literary and cultural program, including a Ghazal recitation competition, was held at the Conference Hall of the Unani College, Azam Campus, Pune. The event was jointly organized by The Deccan Muslim Institute, Camp, Pune, and Ghalib Institute, Delhi, under the theme “Hui Muddat Ke Ghalib Mar Gaya, Par Yaad Aata Hai” (It Has Been a Long Time Since Ghalib Passed Away, Yet He is Remembered).
Students from various educational institutions participated in the event, showcasing their talent by reciting Ghalib’s Ghazals, paying a heartfelt tribute to the legendary poet. The judging panel for the Ghazal recitation competition included Badr Apa and Farhat Iqbal from Islamia School, Pune. The program was expertly moderated by Dr. Azmat Dalal.
In the opening address, Shahida Syed, Vice President of The Deccan Muslim Institute, warmly welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude for their presence. The chief guest, Dr. Idris Ahmed, Director of Ghalib Institute, New Delhi, shed light on the life and poetry of Mirza Ghalib. He described Ghalib as a revolutionary poet of his era, emphasizing that he was not only a literary genius but also a trailblazer in the world of Urdu poetry.
Dr. Idris Ahmed elaborated on Ghalib’s unparalleled wit, poetic critique, and eloquence, which made him a unique and celebrated figure in Urdu literature. He stated that Ghalib remains the only Urdu poet whose thoughts and expressions are recognized at the highest literary standards. Ghalib’s poetry continues to captivate audiences worldwide, keeping his legacy alive. Dr. Ahmed urged Ghalib enthusiasts to engage in research on his works, write scholarly articles, and adopt his literary brilliance to enrich Urdu literature.
He further highlighted the significant contributions of The Deccan Muslim Institute and Ghalib Institute in promoting Urdu literature, particularly Ghalib studies, across India.
At the end of the event, the winners of the Ghazal recitation competition were felicitated. Khansa Inamdar secured the first position, Yahya Khan won second place, and Kashaf Fatima secured third place. Dr. Idris Ahmed presented them with trophies and certificates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Asif Sir from The Deccan Muslim Institute.
A large number of faculty members, students, and members of The Deccan Muslim Institute attended the program, making it a memorable tribute to the legendary poet.
