GIO Andhra Pradesh Inaugurates Nationwide Campaign “Embracing Femininity”

Vijayawada: Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the state-level programme of the month-long nationwide campaign “Embracing Femininity” on Sunday in Vijayawada.

The inaugural programme was graced by Mrs. Shoukath Faheem, President, JIH Ladies Wing, AP; Mrs. Firdous Akhtar, National AITA Lady Convenor; Mrs. Kareemuddin, Mrs. Batool Humervi; Mrs. Qanita Salma; Dr. Ishrath Farheen, Zonal President, GIO AP; and Ms. Sumayya Qatoon, State Campaign Convenor.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers explained that “Embracing Femininity” is a call to reclaim womanhood with dignity, purpose, and balance in the light of the Islamic concept of Fitrah. The campaign presents a balanced path beyond the two prevailing extremes of cultural confinement and the pressure to suppress feminine identity, emphasising that femininity is not a weakness or limitation but an essential dimension of human life. They stressed that society flourishes when women contribute confidently without compromising their innate feminine nature.

The inaugural programme featured a symposium on “Embracing Femininity: Identity, Purpose & Balance” and a Femininity Expo & role play, showcasing the Islamic perspective on womanhood and inspiring participants to embrace their identity with confidence and purpose.

“Embracing Femininity” is a nationwide campaign. It is a call to reclaim womanhood with dignity and balance amid the growing pressures faced by young women today. Drawing from the Islamic concept of fitrah, the innate nature with which every human being is created, the campaign proposes a third space beyond the two dominant extremes of cultural confinement on one hand and relentless productivity and emotional detachment on the other.

The campaign emphasises that femininity is not a weakness or a limitation, but an essential dimension of human life. It further stresses that women’s participation in every sphere is not merely a matter of justice; society itself is enriched when women contribute without suppressing their feminine nature.

The campaign was launched with the following objectives:

  1. To help young women discover femininity as part of their fitrah (innate nature) and reconnect with it for their holistic well-being.
  2. To affirm women’s unique strengths and define their dignified position in society across all spheres of life.
  3. To equip young women to thoughtfully engage with both Western liberal narratives and internal patriarchy, thereby creating a “third space” beyond extremes.
  4. To establish a supportive network and resource hub that fosters emotional strength, shared healing, and collective growth.

Throughout August 2026, GIO units across Andhra Pradesh will organise:

  • Public conferences, workshops, campus lectures, seminars, table talks, panel discussions, professional meets, and cadre meets.
  • An online Fitrah Course for young women.
  • Art exhibitions and 2K Walks.
  • Awareness campaigns, signature campaigns, study circles, competitions, and other community engagement activities.

GIO is one of foremost women’s organisations in India, working among young women aged 15–30 years. Its mission is the reconstruction of society in the light of Divine Guidance. GIO is committed to the holistic development of young women in general and Muslim women in particular, enabling them to become confident, responsible, and meaningful contributors to the betterment of society.
