6 June 2024: On Sunday, the Girls Islamic Organization (GIO) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands conducted a one-day camp under the theme “Fostering and Uplifting Muslim Women.” The event began with a recitation of the Quran followed by a Welcome Address, setting a spiritual and warm tone for the day.
The main highlight of the program was a comprehensive presentation by former GIO President Ashifa Yunus titled “What Rights Islam Gives to Women.” Ashifa underscored that women have their own unique identities and are not simply equal to men in a comparative sense. She elaborated on the specific inheritance rights granted to women by Allah in the Holy Quran, demonstrating how these rules affirm women’s distinct status.
Additionally, she stressed the significance of education for women, using Hazrat Aisha as a prime example of the high regard Islam holds for educated women.
Andaman GIO President M. Sanah, in her address, highlighted a hadith that extols the virtues of raising and educating daughters properly, promising Jannah (Paradise) to those who fulfill this duty. She emphasized the critical role of education and good upbringing in shaping the future of Muslim women.
- Fathima, Principal of Heavens Pre School, presented an in-depth account of the life of Umme Sulaym Binth Milhan, one of the greatest female companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Fathima detailed Umme Sulaym’s extraordinary patience, her profound respect for the Prophet, and her unwavering commitment to Islam, including her willingness to sacrifice for the cause and her encouragement for her son to learn from the Prophet.
The program concluded with interactive activities, including a group quiz and games, which fostered a sense of community and engagement among the participants. The day came to an end with an insightful session on Self-care and Grooming conducted by Sister P.K. Nausheen Farooq, providing practical advice and emphasizing the importance of personal well-being.
