Grand Iftar Meet: AIKMCC Calls for Interreligious Unity in India

Port Blair, April 3: In a reassuring display of unity and harmony, individuals hailing from diverse religious backgrounds congregated for the Grand Iftar Meet, organized by the All-India Kerala Muslim Cultural Center (AIKMCC) Andaman State Unit.

The event, held at the prestigious TSG EMERALD View in Phoenix Bay, marked a significant moment for interfaith dialogue and mutual understanding in the region. The Iftar Meet witnessed the participation of religious scholars representing the diverse culture of India and showcasing the inclusive ethos of the gathering. Notable figures from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands graced the occasion, highlighting the importance of fostering communal harmony.

General Secretary AIKMCC – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, AP Abdul Majeed extended a warm welcome to the attendees. He introduced AIKMCC and the philanthropic endeavors of the organization globally in general and within the Islands in particular. A gesture of warmth and hospitality was extended to the religious scholars as they were welcomed with traditional shawls, symbolizing the spirit of inclusivity that permeated the event.

In his address, Swami Shudhdhanad Saraswati of Chinmaya Mission-Port Blair expressed gratitude to the organizers and delivered a poignant message. He remarked, “While we’ve achieved remarkable feats like reaching the moon and exploring space, we seem to have forgotten the essence of humanity on Earth. Despite various factors that divide us, it’s imperative to focus on ideas that foster unity.”

Commending the initiatives of AIKMCC, he emphasized that no religion advocates hatred; instead, all religions promote the spirit of service. He further elaborated, “True religion lies in bringing smiles to faces, providing sustenance to the hungry, shelter to the needy, and facilitating education. These acts embody the genuine essence of religious teachings.”

In his address, Father Albinus Barla, Vicar General- Diocese of Port Blair, recollected the unity forged among the islanders during the devastating tsunami of 2004. He expressed his joy at being invited by AIKMCC to this gathering focused on unity, stating, “I am immensely pleased to have been invited by AIKMCC to this wonderful gathering emphasizing unity. My team and I are more than willing to offer our full support to AIKMCC’s future endeavors.”

During his presidential speech, Abdul Siddique, President of AIKMCC Andaman, highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration among diverse religious communities. He stressed the shared principles of compassion and tolerance that unite people regardless of their religious beliefs.

Gyani Rajendra Singh from the Police Gurudwara highlighted a significant concern, stating, “Religious scriptures are akin to crowns adorning our heads. We must introspect and ascertain whether our younger generation is embracing these teachings. The youth must reconnect with these scriptures to foster peace in the world.”

In his address, Moulana Abdul Kadeer of Dignabad emphasized the interconnectedness of human beings in society, stressing the importance of love, respect, and service towards one another. Citing a hadith, he commended the initiatives of AIKMCC, stating, “The most significant of all deeds is assisting others.”

PP Anas, Vice President of AIKMCC Andaman, extended Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants for their presence and contributions towards promoting peace and harmony in the region.

The Iftar Meet organized by AIKMCC serves as a testament to the power of unity in diversity. It stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for fostering interfaith harmony in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, reaffirming the collective commitment to building a peaceful and inclusive society.
