Gulf Nations on High Alert After US Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

Gulf nations were placed on high alert on Sunday, June 22, after the United States launched coordinated airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow.
The U.S. military confirmed the operation early Sunday, claiming that critical components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure had been neutralized.
The strikes have caused alarm across the Gulf region, particularly as major U.S. military installations are located in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, which hosts the US Fifth Fleet. There are growing concerns that these bases may be targeted in possible retaliatory attacks by Iran.
According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia—the world’s leading oil exporter—has intensified its internal security protocols following the developments.
In Bahrain, 70 percent of government employees have been instructed to work remotely, except for essential field services. The Interior Ministry has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel on major roads and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
Kuwait, in preparation for any potential fallout, has established emergency shelters capable of housing approximately 900 individuals at its ministries complex. These shelters have been rated as C4 (excellent), and additional storage areas have been prepared for future requirements.
Meanwhile, leaders across the Gulf region are engaged in urgent diplomatic dialogue to manage the evolving crisis.
Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to assess bilateral relations and regional security matters.
Similarly, Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been in contact with both UAE and Saudi leadership. Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq also conferred with the Saudi Crown Prince regarding the rapidly deteriorating situation.
