Hamas Rejects Gaza Reshaping Plans, Calls for Palestinian Self Rule

Gaza: Hamas has condemned proposals aimed at reshaping the Gaza Strip and displacing Palestinians, warning against external interference in Palestinian affairs. The remarks came in a statement issued to mark the movement’s 38th anniversary.

The group stated Palestinians alone hold the right to decide their leadership and future. It warned against cooperation with plans designed to alter Gaza’s political or demographic structure in line with Israeli interests. Hamas said Palestinians possess the capacity to manage their own governance without imposed mandates.

The statement stressed national unity as a central requirement for confronting Israeli policies. Hamas described a unified Palestinian strategy as the sole path to resisting efforts intended to undermine the Palestinian cause and block the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Referring to the ongoing war, Hamas said Israeli military action over two years resulted in widespread civilian deaths and destruction. It accused Israeli forces of targeting unarmed civilians across Gaza, the West Bank, and occupied East Jerusalem. The group said documented crimes linked to killings, starvation, and destruction remain subject to accountability under international law.

Hamas urged the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to continue legal proceedings related to actions taken since October 2023. It called for accountability for Israeli political and military leaders involved in the war.

The movement reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement in force since October 10. It appealed to the United States and other mediators to press Israel to halt violations, reopen border crossings, and allow unhindered humanitarian aid. Hamas also demanded immediate implementation of relief, shelter, and reconstruction plans for Gaza’s population, estimated at over two million.

The statement rejected any form of foreign guardianship over Gaza or other occupied Palestinian land. Hamas reiterated its stance against displacement and external control.
