Hamas Seeks Changes in US Ceasefire Proposal for Gaza

Tel Aviv – Hamas has requested amendments to the latest US-proposed ceasefire plan for Gaza, a senior Hamas official revealed on Saturday, as per a report by the Varta Bharati. The changes sought focus on specific guarantees from the US, the timing of the hostage release, the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the besieged territory.
The official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of negotiations, indicated that Hamas is still engaging with the proposal. A formal statement from Hamas confirmed that the group aims for a permanent ceasefire, total Israeli withdrawal, and uninterrupted aid flow. According to the deal, Hamas would release 10 living hostages and return the remains of 18 others in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners.
While Israeli authorities have approved the proposal for a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing 20-month war, US President Donald Trump mentioned that negotiators are close to finalizing a deal.
If implemented, the ceasefire would halt hostilities for 60 days. It includes the release of some of the 58 hostages still held in Gaza and a significant increase in humanitarian supplies, as per Hamas and Egyptian sources who requested anonymity.
Meanwhile, Gaza continues to reel from severe food shortages, with desperate Palestinians intercepting and emptying dozens of trucks carrying aid.
