“Hands in the Soil, Hearts with the Nation”: CIO Launches One Million Tree Plantation Drive Led by Children

New Delhi: The Children Islamic Organisation (CIO) has launched a nationwide environmental campaign with the slogan “Hands in the Soil, Hearts with the Nation”. The initiative aims to plant and nurture one million trees across India between June 25 and July 26, 2025, led by children committed to protecting the environment.
At a press conference held at the headquarters of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, CIO student representatives — Ramla, Syed Nabigh Azhan Husaini, and Mohammed Hameed — outlined the vision and goals of the campaign. They emphasized that CIO is a national platform that promotes holistic development of children based on Islamic values.
“We believe that love for nature should begin in childhood,” said Ramla. “When children are guided in the right way, they can transform the world. This campaign is about igniting a sense of love, responsibility, and care for nature among children, making plantation a joyful and meaningful service to the nation.”
Highlighting the campaign’s urgency, Ramla explained that rising temperatures, deteriorating air quality, and deforestation are serious concerns. “CIO believes that children can play a crucial role in reversing this trend. When a child plants and nurtures a tree, they are not only protecting the Earth but also learning values like responsibility and compassion,” she added.
Detailing the campaign activities, Syed Nabigh Azhan Husaini stated that children will plant trees in schools, madrasas, mosques, parks, and even outside their homes. Each child will be encouraged to name their tree, treat it as a friend, and take personal responsibility for its growth. Children will also be encouraged to express their thoughts through art, craft, poetry, and storytelling.
To make the campaign engaging and educational, CIO will organize related activities such as Green Pledge ceremonies, Friday sermons focused on environmental responsibility, nature walks, storytelling contests, and creative workshops. Participants will also be invited to create short videos and social media reels showcasing their plantation efforts.
Speaking about institutional support, Mohammed Hameed emphasized CIO’s collaboration with government bodies to procure healthy saplings, identify suitable plantation sites, and provide educational material on trees and biodiversity. CIO aims to ensure that the planted trees survive and thrive under guided care.
To boost enthusiasm, CIO has also released slogans that will echo in schools, homes, and public spaces:
“Where every child plants a tree, a green world begins to grow.”
“When a single leaf smiles, every day turns greener.”
CIO urged students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and faith leaders to actively participate in this movement. “Let us build a generation that turns love into action. Be a hero of trees, be an ambassador of greenery,” they appealed.
In conclusion, CIO called upon media houses, educators, civil society, and environmental organizations to support and amplify this campaign. “Let’s go beyond numbers and turn this drive into a mission of child-led environmental stewardship. Imagine a million new trees rooted by children — they can make our country greener and our future brighter,” they declared.
