Palwal, Haryana : A major controversy erupted in Palwal, Haryana, as the district administration sealed multiple meat shops owned by Muslim vendors, citing licensing issues. The move, accompanied by heavy police deployment, sparked strong protests from the affected shopkeepers, who accused authorities of religious discrimination.
Videos circulating on social media showed shop owners confronting officials, questioning why only Muslim-owned businesses were targeted while other meat shops continued operations. “This is our livelihood. If regulations apply, they should be enforced equally,” said one protesting vendor.
The administration defended its action, stating that the sealed shops sourced meat from unapproved slaughterhouses, whereas other shops obtained supplies from licensed facilities. Officials suggested that affected vendors relocate their businesses near authorized slaughterhouses.
The incident has ignited a wider debate on religious discrimination in business operations, with activists and opposition leaders criticizing what they describe as selective enforcement of regulations. Protests are expected to continue as shopkeepers demand equal treatment under the law.
