Muslim Leader Quits Congress, Alleges Bias and Harassment Over Ticket Denial

Chennai: A political row has emerged in Tamil Nadu after former state Mahila Congress president M Hazeena Syed resigned from the party, alleging harassment and discrimination. Her exit followed the denial of a ticket for the upcoming assembly election.

Hazeena Syed announced her resignation during a press conference. She later issued a strong statement accusing All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba of harassment. She stated that this formed a key reason for her decision to quit.

Soon after her resignation, the party announced her removal. Responding to this, Hazeena said she had already stepped down and questioned the move.

She also raised concerns about internal functioning. She accused Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai of sidelining her. She further alleged that senior leadership supported these actions.

Hazeena pointed to what she described as bias in ticket distribution. She said she faced discrimination due to her identity as a Muslim woman. She cited her absence from party platforms as evidence.

The former leader had earlier questioned the limited number of seats allocated to women in the state. She compared the situation with other regions and called for greater representation.

In her statement, she also accused the Mahila Congress leadership of financial irregularities. She questioned the use of party funds and called for accountability.

The developments have triggered debate within political circles. The allegations raise questions about representation, internal democracy, and transparency in party structures.
