New Delhi, 13 Sep: The daily hearing of the key case of Delhi riots could not start even from Tuesday. In this case, there are 18 accused, including JNU student and former councillor against whom hearing is to be held after framing of charges.
Delhi Police told the court that the accused who are on bail are adopting the strategy of delaying the hearing. After this, Amitabh Rawat, Special Judge of Karkardooma Court, has fixed September 14 for hearing on framing of charges.
During the hearing, the lawyer of accused Devangana Kalita lodged an objection before the court, saying that it could start only when the prosecution accepts that the investigation had been completed.
Police lawyer Amit Prasad said that the date for argument on the charges was fixed a month ago. The accused had enough time to raise any concerns. This is just a strategy by the accused who are out on bail to ensure that other accused get the benefit. He called it a big conspiracy on the part of the accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The lawyer of Kalita and Asif Iqbal Tanha said that there was no clarity from the police that their investigation will continue and further supplementary chargesheets will be filed.
