Heavy Casualties as Israeli Strikes Hit Gaza

23 Jun. 24: At least 42 individuals have lost their lives in recent Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City, according to the director of the Hamas-run government media office. The attacks targeted residential areas, including the Al-Shati refugee camp and the Al-Tuffah neighborhood.

Ismail Al-Thawabta reported that a single strike on homes in Al-Shati camp resulted in 24 deaths, while another strike in Al-Tuffah killed 18 Palestinians. The Israeli military stated that its fighter jets targeted Hamas military infrastructure in Gaza City, with more details to follow.

Hamas has accused Israel of attacking civilians and vowed retaliation, labeling the Israeli leadership as responsible for the violations. Footage from the scene depicted extensive destruction and frantic efforts to locate survivors among the rubble.

The current conflict escalated on October 7 when Hamas-led forces attacked southern Israel, causing approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and capturing over 250 hostages. Since then, the Israeli offensive has left Gaza devastated, with over 37,400 Palestinian deaths reported, including 101 in the past 24 hours.

Israeli forces are now concentrating their efforts on Rafah and the area around Deir al-Balah. Recent days have seen intensified Israeli tank incursions and bombings in Rafah, displacing numerous families. The Israeli military maintains that its operations are precise and intelligence-based, targeting Palestinian militants and infrastructure.

The conflict continues to inflict severe humanitarian and structural damage on Gaza, raising urgent concerns about the safety and well-being of its residents.
