Hijab Row in Meerut: Girl Denied Entry at Khalsa Girls Inter College, Probe Ordered After Outcry

Meerut : A fresh controversy over the hijab has erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, where a student of Khalsa Girls Inter College has alleged she was denied entry into the school premises for wearing a hijab. A video of the incident, showing a heated exchange between the student and the principal, has gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage, reported the Siasat.

In the video, the girl claims that the administration asked her to remove her hijab and show her face for identification — a demand she described as humiliating. She stated that she was not allowed into the college solely because she wore a hijab, prompting her to record and share the incident online.

Following the incident, District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Rajesh Kumar confirmed that a probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter. Notably, Khalsa Girls Inter College is a minority institution, and the authorities have sought CCTV footage from the college for a fair and transparent inquiry.

Meanwhile, the college principal offered a different version, stating that the student had accompanied two other girls seeking admission, and the teacher merely asked them to show their faces for identification purposes. The situation escalated from there, she claimed.

This is not the first such incident in Uttar Pradesh. In February, a similar controversy arose in Jaunpur, where Muslim girls appearing for board exams were reportedly forced to remove their hijabs before entering the exam centre.
