Muslim Leaders in Himachal Protest Exclusion from Congress Block President List

Nahan: Muslim leaders in Himachal Pradesh have raised objections after the Congress party released a list of 71 block presidents without including any member from the Muslim community. The Himachal Pradesh All Muslim Welfare Society led the protest and called the decision unfair.

In a joint statement, Chief Advisor Naseem Mohammad Didan, Senior Vice President Advocate Shakeel Ahmad, and Sirmaur District Muslim Committee President Captain Saleem Ahmad questioned the state leadership. Didan said the absence of even one Muslim name raises concerns about decision making within the party. He added that such steps send a negative message to Muslim voters who have supported the party over time.

The leaders warned of political consequences if the issue remains unresolved. They stated that continued neglect could impact future elections. The organisation also pointed to broader concerns, stating that key minority bodies have not been formed in the state over the past three years.

Advocate Shakeel Ahmad said the State Haj Committee and State Waqf Board remain unformed. He also noted that the Prime Minister’s 15 point programme for minorities has not been implemented. He described this as a clear gap in addressing minority needs.

Captain Saleem Ahmad said representation is a basic democratic requirement. He questioned why the community has no presence in the list despite its presence across the state.

The leaders urged Pradesh Congress Committee President Vinay Kumar to review the list and ensure fair inclusion. There has been no response from the party leadership so far.
