Phalodi: In a display of interfaith solidarity, the Suffah Educational and Charitable Trust organised a ‘Jalsa-e-Shukriya wa Samman Samaroh’, a gratitude and honour ceremony, at Jod village in Phalodi district of Rajasthan on Sunday, August 2. The event recognised members of the Hindu community who had publicly protested against bulldozer actions targeting mosques, madrasas, and dargahs in the border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Ganganagar.
The ceremony was chaired by Mufti Habibullah Nomani, President of the Suffah Educational and Charitable Trust and Nazim of Tanzeem Jamiat Ulema Rajasthan. Qari Mohammad Amin, Vice President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Mohtamim of Darul Uloom Pokran, presided over the proceedings.
Former Cabinet ministers Harish Chaudhary, MLA from Baitu, and Govind Ram Meghwal, former MLA from Khajuwala, attended as chief guests. Dozens of community leaders, scholars, and local representatives from across the region were also present. All guests received a traditional welcome with safas, garlands, and ajraks.
Mufti Habibullah Nomani, in his address, highlighted the contributions of all religious communities to nation-building. He described the ongoing demolition drive in the border region as one-sided and unjust, and honoured those from various districts who had worked for Hindu-Muslim unity.
Former minister Govind Ram Meghwal reaffirmed his commitment to stand alongside the Muslim community at every step and to oppose any form of injustice against them. Former minister Harish Chaudhary said that India’s foundational identity rests on brotherhood and unity. He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters from the Madani family and called on people to rise above politics and uphold humanity.
Qari Mohammad Amin presented mementos and shields to all guests in recognition of their efforts to promote communal harmony. Maulana Abdul Majid Jaloda conducted the proceedings, and Mahboob Sarpanch offered a vote of thanks. Hundreds of community members attended the event.
