Hindu-Muslim Unity Shines Again: Varanasi Follows Prayagraj’s Example

New Delhi: The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj has caused overcrowding in nearby districts, leading to heavy traffic and accommodation shortages. Varanasi, a major pilgrimage stop, is facing a crisis with hotels and restaurants fully booked, leaving many devotees without shelter.

Amidst this, Varanasi’s Muslim community has stepped up. Saleem, a local trader, opened his home to Hindu pilgrims from Haryana who struggled to find shelter after returning from Ayodhya.

A viral video shows Hindu devotees embracing Saleem with gratitude. One pilgrim said, “Brother Saleem welcomed us like family.” Another, Vedh Singh, admitted he initially hesitated upon learning Saleem was Muslim but later felt deeply respected. He criticized politicians for spreading communal hatred, saying, “The reality is different.”

Shyam Sharma questioned government restrictions on Muslims at the Maha Kumbh, saying, “Without their help, where would we have gone?” He vowed to share Saleem’s kindness back in Haryana. Another devotee, Renu, became emotional, saying she never expected such respect in a Muslim home.

Saleem, a social worker, said, “They can stay as long as they need. We do not see caste or religion.” He recalled Caliph Umar (RA) weeping over a thirsty dog, fearing God’s accountability.

Last month in Prayagraj, Muslims turned homes, schools, and clinics into shelters after a near-stampede left Hindu devotees stranded. Saleem’s gesture in Varanasi is another example of India’s enduring unity and brotherhood.
