Hindu Organization Challenges Waqf Amendment Act in Supreme Court, Warns of Threat to Muslim Existence

New Delhi: While Muslims across the country continue their widespread protests against the controversial Waqf Amendment Act 2025 and hearings are underway in the Supreme Court, a surprising development took place today. The Shri Narayana Dharma Trust, a Kerala-based Hindu organization, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. In its plea, the trust argued that the new law poses a serious threat to the existence of the Muslim community in India, reported the Dawat News.

According to media reports, the trust—established in 2023 to promote the teachings of philosopher and spiritual leader Shri Narayana Guru—sought to intervene in the ongoing petitions challenging various provisions of the amended Waqf law. Citing Guru’s teachings that emphasize the interdependence of all communities and their collective well-being, the trust stated it could not remain a silent spectator to the devastating consequences of this unconstitutional Act on Indian Muslims. The trust advocates for social justice for every citizen in the country.
In its intervention application, the trust argued that the law effectively dismantles the institution of Waqf in India. The petition states, “The Act wrongly and explicitly presents the concept of Waqf as a secular institution, thereby erasing Islamic jurisprudence as the governing law of Waqf and replacing it with a man-made, non-religious framework.”
The trust further argued that government control over Waqf procedures would deprive the Muslim community of the financial resources necessary to practice their religion freely. “This controversial Act threatens the very existence of Muslims in India, as Waqf properties have historically served as a crucial source of economic and religious sustenance for the community,” the plea asserted.
The petition was filed by Advocate Vaibhav Chaudhary and drafted by Advocate Dr. G. Mohan Gopal.
