Hindu Saints Attacked in Meerut: Mistaken Identity Leads to Brutal Assault

Meerut, July 15: In a shocking incident, three Hindu saints were violently attacked by a mob of Hindutva supporters who mistook them for Muslims, reported The Times of India. The assault occurred near Prahlad Nagar, directly in front of the Lisari Gate police station.

The victims, Gaurav Kumar, Gopinath, and Sunil Kumar, are members of the Nath sect from Haryana. They were wrongly accused of being involved in a child kidnapping gang. The mob brutally beat them with sticks and forced them to recite the Hanuman Chalisa and other Hindu mantras to prove their identity.

The attack was recorded by one of the perpetrators and circulated on social media, displaying the saints in visible distress. Meerut police intervened and took the victims into custody. Upon verifying their identities, the police confirmed that they were indeed Hindus from Jagadhri in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana and subsequently released them to return home.

Authorities are currently searching for the attackers. This incident highlights the alarming rise in mob violence and lynchings based on religious identity, reflecting a broader pattern of violence aimed at Muslims.
