Hindutva Activist Lady Advocate Suspended from Practice for 3 Months

Bengaluru: A lady advocate and Hindutva activist Meera Raghavendra who had smeared the face of retired professor and progressive thinker K.S. Bhagwan in the courtyard has been suspended by the Bar Council.

Early this year, Meera Raghavendra had filed a case in the 2nd ACMM court, alleging that Prof. Bhagwan had written insultingly to Rama. Prof. Bhagwan appeared in the court on 4th February, where he was granted bail. While the professor came out of the court, Advocate Meera smeared his face with black ink and threatened to kill him as Prof. Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh had been killed earlier.

In turn, Prof. Bhagwan had filed a complaint with Karnataka Bar Council against accused Meera Raghavendra. She was sent a registered mail asking to appear for a hearing regarding the complaint.

The Bar Council Committee, which investigated the complaint in her absence, said, being a lawyer and not attending to the hearing is against the rules of the Bar Council. The act of applying ink on the face of the professor in the court premises is an act of misconduct and insult to the ethics of the profession.

The Karnataka Bar Council has ordered now that the accused lawyer shall not practice law in any court in Karnataka and in the country as well for three months.

Prof. Bhagwan said it was relief that the Bar Council had taken action even though it was late.
