Nasik, Maharashtra, Dec. 4: A fiery speaker and Hindutva leader Ms Ashu Thakur gave a highly inflammatory and derogatory speech against Muslims at an “anti-love-jihad” public protest organized in Yeola, Nasik on December 4.
In a video that is going viral on social media, Thakur can be seen spewing venom against the Muslim community, saying, “Jihadis should understand that Hindus do not remain silent all the time and they are not only saints. Whenever the dignity of women has been attacked, the war of Mahabharata has taken place. If Hindus are silent, it does not mean that we are meek and non-violent. We respect the Constitution and the administration, and we are taking out this protest. Otherwise, we do not have to tell Hindus, which houses to enter and whom to tear apart.”
Thakur continued, “They said do not name the protest as “Hindu”. Why should we not put the name Hindu? Our Hindu sisters are being molested by these (expletive) and we should avoid naming our protest as Hindu protest. You should thump your chest and say I am not Hindu, I am a fanatic Hindu. I was accompanying our women in the protest and I heard their slogan – “Become Durga, become Kali, become Chandi but never become a woman who wears the burqa”. Remember Hindu woman, if you leave your religion and go to some (expletive) jihadi, then you will be cut up in 100 pieces.”
She further said, “Police give us security and then should we submit ourselves to those butchers? Organize these protests everywhere in India, I will come to all those protests. I don’t want my Hindu brother to be cowardly and meek. You call yourself Hindu, then with a lion only a lioness appears good. The cats with beards and trimmed mustaches should not even cast their shadow on you. And if any looks at you with evil intentions, tear him apart. Every Muslim household contributed Rs 1000 each to pay for the bail of these (expletive) jihadis. Think about it.”
One may recall that in April this year, the Supreme Court of India directed States to take suo motu action by registering FIRs on hate speeches without waiting for a complaint to be lodged by someone.
A Bench of Justices K.M. Joseph and B.V. Nagarathna instructed that their order would apply to all hate speeches irrespective of the religious identity of the speaker. The apex court showed the specific penal provisions that need to be invoked like “Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 505 (public mischief), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)”.
The bench even went so far as to say that if there is any hesitation by the police to implement their order then it would be viewed as contempt of court.
