Hyderabad : Members of Hindutva outfits staged a protest outside Madrasa Noomania, a centuries-old Islamic seminary in Hyderabad, demanding its closure, reported the Clarion India.
The madrasa, nearly 400 years old, has been operating for the last seven years inside Masjid-e-Hussaini, a Qutb Shahi-era mosque of the same age, where prayers are still offered five times daily.
Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjadullah Khan condemned the protest. He said it was a deliberate attempt to disturb communal peace in the city. “They are trying to damage harmony by targeting an institution that has been functioning for years,” Khan said.
He also accused the Balapur police of inaction. Despite provocative slogans being raised for more than two hours, the police allegedly did not intervene.
The outfits alleged that the madrasa enrolled “outsiders.” The management strongly denied this claim, stating that only local students were admitted.
The madrasa currently houses several students who attend regular classes and employs multiple teachers. Both students and teachers now fear for their future as the demand for closure grows.
Locals expressed concern over the unrest. They accused the protestors of attempting to spoil the peaceful environment. Many insisted the madrasa should not be shut merely because of such demonstrations and urged police not to side with extremist groups.
