New Delhi: A Hindutva-aligned digital platform posted a video on Gandhi Jayanti celebrating the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, drawing widespread condemnation.
The Jaipur Dialogue, founded by former IAS officer Sanjay Dixit, shared the video on Friday depicting the shooting of the freedom fighter. The video ends with a graphic borrowed from a viral gaming meme that reads “Mission Passed Respect +99,” celebrating the shooter, Nathuram Vinayak Godse.
A separate post on the same page criticised Gandhi over claims that he forced India to pay 55 crore rupees to Pakistan. “We call him The Father of the Nation. What a shame!,” the post read.
Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948. Godse, his killer, was a Hindu nationalist with past ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and membership in the Hindu Mahasabha.
The Jaipur Dialogue has faced repeated accusations of promoting anti-Muslim and Islamophobic content through its social media channels. In August, a cybercrime complaint was filed against the platform and its founder Sanjay Dixit. The complaint related to the alleged doxxing of a 15-year-old girl who came under a Hindutva campaign after she allegedly used objectionable language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the NEET protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
The platform’s decision to post celebratory content on a national holiday dedicated to Gandhi has intensified scrutiny of its activities and the role of such platforms in spreading communal and politically charged content online.
