Delhi Bharatiya Chikitsa Parishad Should Be Constituted Soon: Tibbi Congress Delhi State
New Delhi: In an important meeting of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress Delhi State, the organisation’s National Secretary General Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan said that in order to continuously deliver the benefits of Unani medicine to the public at the grassroots level and to promote education and research in this field, the historic Tibbia College should be given university status. He said that Unani medicine is a scientific system of treatment that has been in practice for centuries, and that this great institution was established with the very purpose of ensuring its benefits reach the maximum number of people.
Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan said that almost all the basic facilities and resources needed to convert this Tibbia College into a university are already in place. What is required is only a serious and practical effort on the part of the government. He made clear that there is no major financial obstacle in this regard, since the Tibbia College already possesses more than 25 acres of land, which is sufficient for the establishment of a university. He said that this historic college already has two faculties – Ayurveda and Unani. In addition, a faculty of Regimental Therapy could also be established, while around 14 other departments could be developed in phases to meet university requirements.
Historically, this Tibbia College holds an extremely important place in the promotion of Ayurveda and Unani medicine in India. Given the institution’s historic status, its vast land holdings, and its already existing educational and medical infrastructure, there is a need to develop it further.
Dr. Khan further said that if the government makes a serious effort, converting this Tibbia College into a university would not be a difficult task. Through this, higher medical education, research, treatment, and Unani and Ayurvedic medicine attuned to modern requirements could be promoted, and the facility of natural treatment methods could be made available to the public on a large scale. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Shakeel Ahmed. The meeting unanimously demanded that, keeping in view the importance of the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College, immediate steps be taken to grant it university status.
On this occasion, the demand for the formation of the Delhi Bharatiya Chikitsa Parishad (DBCP) was reiterated. It may be noted that the DBCP has remained dissolved for nearly past ten years, due to which Ayurvedic and Unani doctors face various kinds of difficulties.
In addition, it was demanded that the Hindustani Dawakhana, established by the eminent freedom fighter Masih-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan, be restarted so that the public can have access to quality medicines at reasonable prices. Among those who expressed their views at the meeting were Dr. Ehsan Ahmed Siddiqui, Dr. Mahmood Alam, Dr. Ghiyasuddin Siddiqui, Dr. Faizan Ahmed Siddiqui, Dr. Shamsuddin Azad, Dr. Faheem Malik, and Advocate Shah Jabeen Qazi, among others. Dr. Khursheed Alam thanked all the participants.
