A late-night protest erupted on Tuesday in Moradabad’s TDI City housing society after a house in the predominantly Hindu colony was sold to a Muslim doctor, according to The Times of India.
The gated community, home to 450 Hindu families, voiced concerns over the sale, fearing it could alter the colony’s demographics and potentially encourage Hindu families to relocate. Residents have requested the annulment of the house’s registration.
The property, located in the affluent Kanth Road area, was sold by Dr. Ashok Bajaj to Dr. Ikra Chaudhary. Protesters alleged that Bajaj did not inform the community about the transaction, claiming the sale disrupted the “social harmony” of the colony, which reportedly had no Muslim residents prior to this.
Payal Rastogi, one of the protesters, reportedly said: “Bajaj sold his house to a non-Hindu without informing us. This area has always been peaceful, and we want the registry cancelled. A formal complaint has already been lodged with the district administration and police.”
Another resident, Pallavi, added, “We have no hostility toward any community, but we want things to remain as they are. This has been our home for over 15 years, and if the registry isn’t reversed, it might prompt Hindus to leave, changing everything.”
District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh assured the public, “We are addressing the matter and working toward a peaceful resolution. The administration and police are engaging with both parties to maintain communal harmony.”
