Human Chain Outside Mosque During Ram Navami in Katihar Goes Viral, Becomes Symbol of Communal Harmony

Katihar, Bihar – A video showing a human chain formed in front of a mosque during a Ram Navami procession in Katihar district has gone viral, drawing widespread praise and sparking discussions on communal harmony. The peaceful gesture took place outside the Jama Masjid at Fakiratkia Chowk on MG Road, where members of the Hindu community linked hands as the Ram Navami procession passed by, chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”
The video quickly gained traction on social media and was even featured on a youtube  channel, BBC Live , where it was hailed as a moving example of unity and respect between religious communities. Prominent personalities such as author Asghar Wajahat and actress Swara Bhaskar lauded the act. Wajahat described the human chain as “like raindrops in scorching heat,” while Bhaskar emphasized the urgent need for such acts of brotherhood in today’s divided times.
While many interpreted the human chain as a gesture to protect the mosque, procession organizers from groups like the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad clarified that it was intended to ensure the safety of the procession participants and prevent any conflict. Local peace committee members and authorities supported this account, stating the move was a preventive measure to ensure peace and avoid any provocation.
The incident, which passed without any disturbance, has become a powerful visual of peaceful coexistence, reinforcing the message that India’s diversity can be its strength when met with mutual respect.
