Can a machine ever think like a human?

Have you ever thought about which is more intelligent, AI or Humans?

In today’s world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a key role in all the sectors by marking a remarkable growth in every field. The current issue of humans is: AI can replace humans and surely it does! Can anyone think of a solution to this problem? What will help humans for their employment and their jobs? There are still things that AI can’t replace. Every problem can be solved by creativity and critical thinking.

Major AI Breakthroughs

AI has fundamentally changed the world by acting as an autonomous partner in work and daily life. Here are some major AI breakthroughs:

  • Healthcare and Medical Field: AI, specifically model named AlphaFold, transforms raw genetic sequence into 3D models allowing experts to instantly understand a protein’s shape, function, and its potential role in disease without months of experimental lab work. It also helps in speeding up the discovery of new medicines.
  • Climate and Earth Science: An AI named GraphCast, A DeepMind AI model that provides high-accuracy, medium-range weather forecasts, outperforming traditional physics-based simulation models.
  • Transport Sector: USTAAD (Undergear Surveillance Through Artificial Intelligence Assisted Droid) is an AI-powered robot developed by the Indian Railways to enhance safety by inspecting the under-gear components of trains.
  • Education Field: 24/7 AI tutors like khanmingo, notebookLM and chatGPT helps students learn faster and clearly as it summarises, elaborates and generates notes on the provided topics.

How AI Is Transforming the World

The major breakthroughs of AI took the world to another level, making the activities in daily life faster and easier, but it is a threat to human employment.

In ancient days, humans used to have different professions like labourers, accountants, journalists, etc. But nowadays,

  • Accountants and bookkeepers are replaced by modern AI software as it performs complex calculations far faster than humans.
  • Journalists and content writers are replaced as AI is capable of generating sports reports, financial updates, and simple news articles.
  • Clerks are replaced as AI can automatically process and organise data.
  • Cashiers are replaced by automated AI checkout systems in supermarkets and retail stores.
  • Graphic designers are replaced by tools like Canva and Figma.
  • Telemarketers are now handled by AI-driven bots that help with customer service enquiries and cold calls.
  • Historically, humans did math by using their critical thinking and from hands; later they are replaced by computers and now further with AI.

Human Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is dominating every field and making a wide range of the population unemployed. Whereas the question rises, who created AI? The answer is A human. First, the term Artificial Intelligence was coined by John McCarthy, who is also known as the father of AI in 1956 Dartmouth Conference. Humans created Robots and programmed them in different programming languages. Although, they do not possess critical thinking, moral principles and emotions as humans do. Humans have creativity, original thinking, emotions, empathy, ethics and moral judgements. Humans can adapt to unpredictable situations but AI can’t. AI can’t replace the art of a human. Several professions are still not replaceable due to human creativity and intelligence. Farmers, nurses, skilled people like electricians, carpenters and plumbers will not be replaced by AI unless it is programmed to do those jobs. It still can’t match human creativity.

Competition or Collaboration

The smartest approach is not overpowering AI, it’s using it wisely. The future lies in collaboration with AI. AI should be seen as a tool that enhances capabilities, not replaces them. The most successful individuals in the future will not be those who compete with AI, but those who learn to work alongside it. AI and human efforts are the great combination to develop the world so far. In this partnership with AI, human intelligence will always remain as the guiding force.
