Hyderabad: The 37th Hyderabad Book Fair began at NTR Stadium here Saturday, marking an 11-day celebration of literature and knowledge. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the event, emphasising its role in fostering a culture of reading among the youth.
Open daily from 12 PM to 9 PM until January 1, the fair offers a platform for students, writers, journalists, and book enthusiasts to engage in book launches, discussions, and interactive sessions.
As per a Siyasat report, with participation from around 210 publishers and suppliers, including prominent names like Telugu Academy, Penguin, Sage, Navodaya, Telugu Islamic Publications and others, the fair presents a wide array of books at discounted prices.
During the inauguration, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the decline in book reading due to digital media and stressed the importance of events like the Hyderabad Book Fair in inspiring younger generations.
“Studying history through books written by historians will help us uncover stories of unsung heroes,” he said.
The chief minister also reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the Hyderabad Book Fair. Several ministers, along with literary and academic figures such as MLC M. Kodandaram, Justice Sudarshan Reddy, senior editor K. Ramachandra Murthy, and Professor Rama Melkote, are serving as advisors for this year’s event.
The fair also recognises the contributions of historians and poets to Telangana’s heritage. The state government has renamed Telugu University after historian Suravaram Pratap Reddy, acknowledging his significant work. Poets like Kaloji and Dasarathi, who inspired the first phase of the Telangana movement, and writers like Andesri, Guda Anjaiah, and Gaddar, who influenced the second phase, were also remembered during the event.
