Hyderabad: Allegations against Bajrang Dal activists for stopping vehicles carrying bulls in Hyderabad have triggered concern among Muslim groups and civil society organisations ahead of Eid Al-Adha.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of May 11 near Chaitanyapuri Metro Station on Kothapet Road. According to reports, several vehicles transporting bulls were intercepted by individuals linked to the Hindutva organisation. Videos and photographs from the scene later circulated widely on social media.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the activists questioned transporters and attempted to inspect the vehicles on a public road. The incident drew criticism because Telangana has no legal ban on the transportation of bulls or animal sacrifice linked to Eid Al-Adha.
Muslim organisations and political leaders accused self-styled cow vigilante groups of creating fear and tension before the religious festival. They also questioned how private groups were allegedly allowed to stop vehicles and conduct checks without legal authority.
Majlis Bachao Tehreek leader Amjed Ullah Khan condemned the incident and urged police to take action against those involved. He said no private organisation has the authority to behave like law enforcement agencies on public roads.
Residents and activists expressed concern over repeated incidents involving cattle traders and transporters, especially during important Muslim occasions. Several social media users also questioned why suspected violations were not reported directly to police instead of roadside confrontations taking place.
Civil rights observers warned that such incidents increase communal tension and create insecurity among minorities linked to the cattle trade.
At the time of reporting, police had not announced any arrests or clarified whether any group had permission to stop or inspect vehicles.
