Hyderabad: In a dramatic early morning operation on Thursday, May 22, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished several illegal structures erected on Muslim and Christian cemetery lands in Parvathapur, located within the Peerzadiguda municipal corporation limits of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, reported the Siasat.
The action, reportedly carried out without prior notice, triggered strong emotional reactions from the affected individuals. Many residents and shopkeepers, who had set up businesses like general stores and stationery shops over the years on the encroached land, were left devastated. Videos circulating on social media captured tearful pleas by locals asking authorities for time to vacate, while others raised slogans such as “HYDRAA down down” and “Rahul Gandhi down down.”
Officials claim that the land had been gradually encroached upon and sold illegally. Despite the anguish of displaced individuals, representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities welcomed the move, hailing it as a long-overdue step toward restoring sanctity to burial grounds.
A day earlier, HYDRAA had removed road encroachments linked to Sage School following complaints from local residents. That road connects Warangal Highway to 80 residential plots across 5.20 acres of land.
The operation in Parvathapur marks HYDRAA’s continued efforts to address illegal land occupation in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
