IIT Student Accuses Kanpur ACP Mohsin Khan of Sexual Exploitation, ACP Denies Allegations; FIR Registered

– Akhilesh Tripathi

Lucknow: An IIT student has accused Kanpur Police ACP Mohammad Mohsin Khan of sexual exploitation. The student alleges that Khan made false promises of marriage and exploited her. An FIR has been registered, and an SIT is now investigating the matter. ACP Khan has denied the allegations, calling them baseless.

ACP Khan, serves as the Cyber Crime and Collector Ganj officer in Kanpur. The student, originally from West Bengal and pursuing a Ph.D. at IIT Kanpur, claims that Khan befriended her while pursuing his own Ph.D. in Cyber Crime Investigation at the same institute. According to the complaint, Khan allegedly presented himself as unmarried, made promises of marriage, and exploited her sexually.

When the student learned that Khan was married, she attempted to end the relationship. Khan allegedly assured her that he was divorcing his wife and would marry her. The student filed a rape complaint at Kalyanpur police station, leading to the registration of an FIR against ACP Khan.

Following the FIR, ACP Khan was removed from his Kanpur post and attached to the DGP Headquarters in Lucknow. Additional Police Commissioner Harish Chander stated, “The FIR was registered based on the IIT student’s complaint. A Special Investigation Team, led by DCP Ankita Sharma, will handle the case. Further action will depend on the SIT’s findings.”

Denying the accusations, ACP Khan stated, “The allegations are baseless. We became friends during our Ph.D. programmes, but she pressured me to marry her. She even visited my home and has previously harmed herself. When she saw a photo of me with my wife on social media, she became upset and is now making false claims to blackmail me.”

Khan, a 2013 PPS officer, is known for his integrity and dedication. He was awarded a silver medal by DGP Prashant Kumar in August for exemplary service. His reputation as a well-educated and accomplished officer has fuelled public scepticism about the allegations.

The swift registration of the FIR, Khan’s removal, and the SIT’s formation have sparked debates. Critics question why the FIR was filed without preliminary investigation, especially given the police’s usual delays in registering complaints. This has led some to believe that Khan may have been framed.

The complainant’s late-night medical examination at a community health centre has raised additional questions. Observers are asking why the examination was not conducted at a government medical college or a larger hospital in Kanpur. The timing and urgency of the examination have also come under scrutiny, with many speculating that procedural anomalies may have influenced the investigation.

The unanswered questions – Why was the medical examination conducted late at night at a smaller health centre? Why weren’t larger government facilities in Kanpur used for the examination? Was the investigation rushed, and if so, why? – are fuelling further speculation about the case’s impartiality and the motivations behind the swift actions taken against ACP Mohsin Khan. The SIT’s findings will likely play a crucial role in determining the truth.
