New Delhi: A delegation of the Integrated Medical Association (IMA–AYUSH) and the All India Unani Tibbi Congress met Dr. Maneesha Upendra Kothekar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), at her office and congratulated her and other office-bearers of the Boards constituted under NCISM. Notably, congratulations were also extended to Dr. Sushrat Kanujia (President, Board of Ethics and Registration), Dr. Allam Prabhu Gudda (President, Board of Ayurveda), Professor Asim Ali Khan (President, Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa), and Professor Mazhar Alam, among others.
The delegation was led by Dr. R.S. Chauhan, former President of the Delhi Bharatiya Chikitsa Parishad. On this occasion, the delegation requested that guidelines be issued for conducting Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes for the purpose of earning points required for renewal, so that the disorder and irregularities witnessed in previous years could be addressed. It may be recalled that due to such irregularities, CME programmes have been suspended until the issuance of a new order by NCISM.
Since this Commission of the Government of India functions as a regulatory body for the systems of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa, it was emphasised that all orders issued from here should carry equal authority for all these systems of medicine. The delegation also demanded that, like the National Medical Commission (NMC), doctors associated with NCISM should be vested with all necessary powers.
Apart from Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, Secretary General of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress, the delegation included former CCIM member Dr. N.K. Chawania, Dr. Raman Khanna, Dr. O.P. Vashisht, Dr. M. Usman, Dr. R.P. Panchal, Dr. Arun Kataria, and Dr. K.K. Singhal.
