Imam Booked for Hoisting Islamic Flag Above Tricolour in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh

Kaushambi (UP): Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district have registered a case against a 37-year-old Imam, Imtiaz Ahmed, for allegedly hoisting an Islamic flag higher than the national flag atop a mosque’s minaret in Muratganj town on August 31, reported the Siasat.

The incident came to light during a routine patrol in the Sandipan Ghat police station area. Sub-Inspector Ajit Singh, who is also the Muratganj outpost in-charge, reported the matter, stating that the act had “diminished the dignity and honour of the national flag.” Authorities immediately removed the Islamic flag.

Based on Singh’s written complaint, a case was lodged under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. Chail Circle Officer Abhishek Singh confirmed the registration of the case and highlighted the seriousness of the violation.

The matter has sparked local debate, with officials emphasizing the need to maintain respect for national symbols. Police are investigating the intent behind the Imam’s actions while reinforcing that any act perceived as dishonouring the tricolour will be dealt with firmly.
