New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Vice President, Professor Salim Engineer, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur. In a statement issued to the media, he said, “The unrest in Manipur continues to cause immense suffering to ordinary people and poses a significant threat to peace in the state. The government must take immediate action to end this cycle of violence that has engulfed the region. We stand in solidarity with all the victims – Meitei, Kuki, and others – and express our heartfelt condolences. The apathy of both the state and central governments is deeply troubling. Their indifference and failure to end the violence and restore normalcy are completely unjustified.”
Professor Salim Engineer demanded the dismissal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, accusing him of abandoning his constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of citizens.
He further remarked, “The ongoing violence for almost a year and a half raises serious questions. Are some officials in the government or administration prolonging this tragedy for their own vested interests? Conditions in the relief camps are deplorable, and these camps must be closed by providing better facilities for the displaced. Proper compensation should be provided to the injured, and meaningful solutions must be offered to the families of the deceased. These steps are essential to alleviate the suffering of the most affected.”
The JIH Vice President also lauded the peace efforts of the Pangal Muslim community in Manipur and their active support for all Meitei and Kuki victims. He said, “In these challenging times, their initiatives symbolise hope and unity.”
The Jamaat has called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve issues through dialogue and discussion rather than resorting to violence. The statement emphasised that “peace, harmony, and mutual respect are the only ways to achieve lasting solutions.”
