Jalna: AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel issued a sharp warning against harassment of Muslim women while addressing a public rally during campaigning for the January 15 municipal corporation elections. Speaking before supporters in Jalna, Jaleel said he would act firmly against anyone who touched Muslim women with ill intent. His remarks followed controversy linked to comments made after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen pulling down a woman’s hijab.
Jaleel referred to an objectionable statement by Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad, which drew criticism across political circles. Nishad later claimed his words were misinterpreted. Jaleel said such remarks reflected a pattern of disregard toward the dignity of Muslim women and demanded accountability from political leaders.
The AIMIM leader criticised parties which describe themselves as secular. He said these parties remain silent when Muslims face disrespect or harassment. He accused them of supporting criminal elements while denying Muslims fair political space. According to Jaleel, these parties label AIMIM as communal to block the rise of independent Muslim leadership.
Targeting Nitish Kumar over the hijab incident, Jaleel said such actions weaken trust among Muslim citizens and expose double standards in public life. He stressed respect and safety for Muslim women as a non negotiable issue.
Jaleel also responded to remarks by Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, who demanded freezing of AIMIM’s kite election symbol due to the Makar Sankranti festival. Jaleel mocked the demand and questioned selective objections during election periods.
AIMIM has fielded 17 candidates in the civic polls. Jaleel said his party seeks clear representation, dignity and protection for Muslim communities amid rising political hostility.
