New Delhi, Feb. 13: Even after one-and-a-half months after lodging a written complaint of vandalizing Mohan Garden cemetery, the police have not registered an FIR yet. More surprisingly, the police have started the investigation of the case without any FIR. The people are angry over the dilly-dallying policy of the police. The Muslim Cultural Society has submitted another application for preserving the CCTV footage.
Mohammed Haroon, President of Muslim Cultural Society, reportedly said that on January 31 when he was going to Mohan Garden police station along with some other officials of the organization to complain about the vandalising of graves in Mohan Garden cemetery, he observed another act of breaking the old concrete graves inside the cemetery, which is registered on reference ID 8513944. He immediately called the police on the help number 112. The PCR van arrived at the spot and inquired about them. After formal inquiry, they reached the police station and submitted a written complaint before the Investigating officer. Receipt of the complaint was not given from the police station. On enquiry, they were told that the case was registered on DD number 37 A. They were sent away from the police station with instructions to call again.
In a statement to the media, Mohammed Haroon informed that on the same evening, a written complaint was e-mailed to the SHO of Mohan Garden police station and other higher authorities. The next day, on February 1, they again reached Mohan Garden police station and met the Additional Police Station Chief. This time the complaint was registered in the computer and stamped, and they were sent back with the assurance of registering an FIR.
“Very next day i.e. on 2nd February, I received a message from the police department in which despite assurance on our complaint, investigation was started instead of registering FIR, whose reference number is 81760122400150. It was a matter of great surprise for us that despite all efforts to investigate such a serious incident, an FIR has not been registered and an investigation has been started. Due to which, there is uneasiness among the entire minority community and justice-loving people of the area,” he added.
“In this regard, an application is submitted to the police station to register an FIR as soon as possible and start the investigation regarding the incident that took place in Mohan Garden cemetery. The application has also requested to preserve the CCTV footage of the incidents and the places around the graveyard,” he enumerated.
Mohammad Haroon said that letters have also been sent to the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister, Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Delhi Waqf Board and National Minority Commission along with National Human Rights Commission so that FIR can be registered and action taken against the culprits as soon as possible.
