India Confirms Ceasefire Agreement with Pakistan After Direct Talks and US Mediation

In a significant development, India has officially confirmed a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, following direct military-level talks and diplomatic mediation led by the United States, reported the BBC.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Saturday evening that the ceasefire was finalized after Pakistan reached out for de-escalation. “DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) of Pakistan called up DGMO (of India) at 3:35 pm. They agreed that both sides will stop all firing and military action from land, air, and sea from 5 pm onwards,” Misri stated. He added that further talks between the DGMOs are scheduled for noon on May 12.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the agreement was reached directly between the two nations without intermediaries.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar echoed the announcement in a post on X, stating, “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action.”
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to reveal the breakthrough. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence,” Trump wrote.
Confirming Pakistan’s position, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar posted on X, “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the agreement, noting that over the past 48 hours, US Vice President Vance and he had engaged with key officials from both nations, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Jaishankar, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.
“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio said.
The ceasefire is seen as a critical step toward easing regional tensions and opening the door for broader diplomatic engagement.
