Indian Army Soldier Devinder Singh Arrested in Pakistan-Linked Espionage Case from Jammu & Kashmir

Mohali/New Delhi — In a major security breach, the Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has arrested a serving Indian Army soldier, Devinder Singh, for allegedly leaking classified military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), reported the India Today.
Devinder Singh, a resident of Nihalgarh village in Punjab’s Sangrur district, was taken into custody on July 14 from Uri, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Authorities presented him before a court in Mohali on July 15, which granted a six-day police remand for further interrogation.
The arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation into an espionage network involving former Army personnel. Earlier, ex-Army man Gurpreet Singh, also known as Guri or Fauji, was arrested for similar charges. While in custody at Ferozepur Jail, Gurpreet reportedly revealed Devinder’s involvement in procuring sensitive Army documents and passing them on to Pakistan.
Initial findings suggest that Devinder and Gurpreet met in 2017 during military training at an Army camp in Pune. They continued their association over the years while serving in Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir, where both had access to classified military information. Authorities suspect that some of this material was leaked, with Gurpreet acting as a conduit to the ISI.
Devinder Singh’s exact role in the espionage network remains under investigation, and further disclosures are expected during his police remand.
The case has raised serious concerns about internal security and potential vulnerabilities within the armed forces.
