Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, hosted a reception at India House in Dhaka to honor the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team before their participation in the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
In his address, Verma highlighted the strong ties between Bangladesh and India, rooted in geography, history, language, and culture. He emphasized cricket as a vital link that continues to strengthen relations between the two neighbors.
The envoy praised the progress of women’s cricket in both countries, noting the passion and skill with which the teams now compete at the international level. He described the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team as a symbol of empowerment and youth leadership. He expressed confidence that their achievements would inspire young girls across Bangladesh to pursue their ambitions.
Extending best wishes for the upcoming tournament, Verma said he was certain the team would bring pride to the nation through their performance.
The reception was also attended by Nazmul Abedeen, Chairman of the Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket Wing, and Shathira Jakir Jessy, who is set to make history as the first Bangladeshi woman umpire in an ICC World Cup match.
The 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. This will be the 13th edition of the tournament, with Bangladesh aiming to leave a strong mark on the global stage.
