Indian Muslim Groups, Scholars and Civil Society Issue Strong Statement on Gaza, Urge Indian Govt and Global Powers to Act

New Delhi — In a powerful show of unity, prominent Muslim organizations, leading Islamic scholars, and civil society groups from across India have issued a joint statement condemning the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The declaration, made on behalf of over 200 million Indian Muslims and other peace-loving citizens, calls upon the Indian government and the international community to intervene decisively to halt the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine.
The joint statement expresses deep concern over the relentless Israeli military offensive, describing it as a “brutal genocide” that has resulted in the deaths of nearly 100,000 Palestinians—many of them women and children—since October 2023. The signatories highlighted the systematic destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, and refugee camps, as well as the severe collapse of Gaza’s health, water, and sanitation infrastructure.
“Over 90% of healthcare facilities in Gaza have either been destroyed or rendered non-functional,” the statement noted, adding that only a few nutrition centres remain for a population of over two million. It further pointed out that more than 17,000 children have been orphaned, half a million students are out of school, and thousands of tons of essential supplies are blocked at border crossings. The resulting lack of clean water, food, and medical aid has triggered the spread of deadly diseases and pushed the region toward mass famine.
The statement strongly urges the global community to break its silence and sever military and economic ties with Israel. It also calls on all Muslim-majority countries to intensify diplomatic and economic pressure on Israel and its allies to bring an end to the atrocities.
India’s historical support for oppressed peoples was also referenced. The statement appeals to the Indian government to “honour its moral and diplomatic legacy” by standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people. It demands that India denounce Israel’s aggression, suspend all military and strategic ties with Tel Aviv, and support international efforts to end the occupation and open humanitarian corridors to allow for the safe passage of essential supplies into Gaza.
The appeal concludes by emphasizing that silence in the face of genocide is complicity and that this is a defining moment for nations and individuals alike to take a moral stand.
