New Delhi: The Embassy of the State of Palestine has welcomed India’s renewed commitment to the Palestinian people following External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar’s announcement of three major development projects and New Delhi’s reaffirmation of support for a two-state solution and Palestine’s full membership of the United Nations.
The announcement came during the launch of India’s campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-2029 term. It follows commitments made by India at the Palestine Donor Group meeting in Brussels.
India has announced plans to establish a speciality hospital, an artificial limb fitment centre and a vocational training institute for the Palestinian people. According to the Palestinian Embassy, the projects arrive at a time when Palestinians, particularly those in the Gaza Strip, continue to face an acute humanitarian crisis.
In a statement issued in New Delhi, the embassy described the initiative as an important contribution toward addressing urgent humanitarian needs. It said Gaza’s healthcare system has suffered extensive destruction during the ongoing conflict, leaving hospitals damaged, medical facilities inoperative, healthcare workers affected and essential medicines in short supply. The embassy added that thousands of Palestinians who have lost limbs require rehabilitation, prosthetic support and long-term medical care.
The embassy expressed hope that the proposed speciality hospital and artificial limb fitment centre would strengthen healthcare services and improve rehabilitation facilities for those most affected by the conflict. It also said the vocational training institute would equip young Palestinians with practical skills needed for rebuilding communities and supporting economic recovery.
Alongside the development projects, the embassy welcomed India’s renewed support for a negotiated two-state solution and its backing for Palestine’s full membership of the United Nations. It also appreciated India’s continuing humanitarian and development assistance for the Palestinian people.
Expressing gratitude, the embassy thanked the Government and people of India for their continued friendship and humanitarian support. It said India’s position reflects a commitment to peace, justice, international law and the aspiration for a peaceful resolution based on the two-state framework.
The announcement reinforces India’s long-standing engagement with Palestine through development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. The Palestinian Embassy described the latest initiatives as timely measures that address pressing healthcare and rehabilitation needs while contributing to education, skills development and long-term recovery for Palestinian society.
