Aligarh: In a significant step towards enhancing international academic cooperation and cultural exchange, a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to India visited Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to explore avenues for collaboration and a joint student exchange programme with Indonesian universities.

The delegation, led by Her Excellency Ms. Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to India and the Kingdom of Bhutan, held an extensive meeting with the AMU administration in the Selection Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. The discussions focused on a broad range of academic initiatives, including student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research and publications, curriculum development, sharing of best practices, and promotion of language and cultural studies – especially in the context of the shared Indo-Islamic heritage.

Her Excellency was accompanied by Mr. Aldrin Herwany (Education and Cultural Attaché), Mr. Musoni (First Secretary – Political Affairs), and Mr. Adhy Buwono (First Secretary – Consular & Indonesia Citizenship Protection).

The Indonesian delegation was warmly received by AMU, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS), Registrar; Prof. Raziuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare; Prof. Asfar Khan, Officer on Special Duty; Prof. Wasim Ali, Proctor; and Prof. Vibha Sharma, Member In-Charge, Public Relations Office, along with other senior officials.

The meeting included presentations from both sides and a detailed discussion on a proposed Common Minimum Programme to be formalized under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future. Her Excellency commended AMU as a “prestigious institution of higher learning with a global reputation.”

Addressing the delegation, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon emphasised, “AMU holds a national character with a high standard of learning that consistently attracts international students. These students serve as ambassadors of their countries and contribute to fostering mutual understanding and stronger ties between nations.”

After the meeting, the Indonesian delegation, accompanied by Public Relations Officer Mr. Omar S. Peerzada and escorted by Mr. M. Asif Khan, visited the historic Sir Syed House and Sir Syed Hall to pay tribute to the university’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The visit concluded with a cordial interaction during a gathering hosted by Indonesian students currently enrolled at AMU.

This high-level engagement marks a moment in AMU’s journey towards expanding its global academic footprint and promoting deeper educational ties.
