Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation stepped up its revenue recovery drive on Thursday and sealed Ghadi Wali Masjid Jamaat Khana along with an attached commercial complex in Ward 56 under Zone 3. The action followed unpaid property tax dues amounting to Rs 4.61 lakh.
Municipal officials sealed the prayer hall premises and a total of 25 shops and warehouses linked to the property. Assistant Revenue Officer Anil Nigam said the dues remained unpaid despite repeated notices issued across the year. The corporation treated the case as long pending and moved forward with enforcement under its recovery process.
Officials said the civic body served a final notice fifteen days before the National Lok Adalat. The notice urged the management to clear dues and avail rebates offered during the settlement forum. No representative from the masjid management attended the Lok Adalat proceedings.
Revenue department staff later contacted the management by phone. Officials stated the response indicated no arrangement for payment of outstanding tax. Following this communication, the recovery team sealed the premises as per municipal rules.
The sealing forms part of a broader revenue collection effort by the civic body targeting properties with prolonged defaults. Officials said similar actions continue across zones where dues remain unpaid after repeated notices.
The development has drawn attention within the local Muslim community due to the inclusion of a masjid property in the drive. Civic officials maintained the action focused on tax compliance and followed standard procedure applicable to all defaulters.
Municipal authorities said property owners and management committees need to engage with the revenue department early to avoid enforcement steps. The corporation indicated further action will follow if dues remain unsettled.
