Lucknow: A five month old infant in Bijnor was reunited with his mother after timely action by Child Helpline 1098 and local authorities under the state’s child welfare framework. Officials said the case highlighted the need to protect the rights of infants, especially in situations involving family disputes.
The incident surfaced on May 3 when Child Helpline received information about a domestic conflict. The father, Shahabuddin, had forced his wife Faima Khatoon out of the house and kept the infant with him. Authorities treated the case as urgent as the child depended fully on maternal care and breastfeeding at this age.
A coordinated team from Child Helpline, working under the Mission Vatsalya Yojana, joined hands with the Anti Human Trafficking Unit and local police officials. They reached the location and began counselling sessions with both parents. Officials held separate discussions with each parent and later brought them together to resolve the issue.
During counselling, the team explained the health risks of separating an infant from the mother. They highlighted the impact on physical growth, emotional stability, and mental development. Officials also informed the family about legal responsibilities and social concerns linked to such actions.
After these efforts, Shahabuddin agreed to hand over the child to Faima Khatoon in the presence of officials. Authorities ensured that the infant would continue to receive proper nutrition and breastfeeding, which remain essential in early months.
Faima Khatoon, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, expressed relief after being reunited with her child. She said she approached Child Helpline 1098 after the separation and received quick support. She thanked the authorities and the state leadership for their response. She has now returned to her parental home along with the child and requested support for raising the infant.
Deputy Director of Women Welfare Directorate Pushpendra Singh said the case showed effective coordination between Child Helpline, police units, and welfare officials. He stated that the government remains focused on protecting children and ensuring timely action in sensitive cases.
Officials said the intervention aimed to secure the best interest of the child and prevent long term harm.
