Mangaluru: City police have registered a criminal case after an Instagram user allegedly posted a threat to carry out a bomb blast near Ullal Masjid. The post drew sharp reactions from community leaders and elected representatives.
According to the complaint filed at Ullala Police Station, a user identified as “Shankar11916” commented, “Support Madi bro Ullal masjid hatra blast maadtini,” which translates to a call for support to blast an explosive near the mosque. The comment appeared under a post featuring a photograph of Suhas Shety, a former Bajrang Dal activist who was murdered in May 2025. A screenshot of the comment later circulated widely on social media.
Police constable Santhosh Doddamani lodged the complaint, stating that the post promoted enmity and incited violence. The police registered offences under Sections 196(2), 197(2), 299 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officers have begun a search to trace and arrest the accused.
Speaker U T Khader directed the police to take strict action. He said people of all faiths live harmoniously in Ullal and warned against content that disturbs communal peace. SDPI Karnataka State Secretary Mohammed Riyaz Kadambu urged swift arrest and equal enforcement of the law.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the department focuses on crimes, not community identity. He termed the post a punishable offence and assured prompt action.
