Interfaith Dialogue on Morality Unites Religious Leaders in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: As part of the nationwide campaign ‘Morality is Freedom,’ Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Coimbatore organized an interfaith dialogue titled “Morality from the Perspective of Religions” at the Divyodaya Hall here Tuesday. The event aimed to foster discussions on the significance of morality across different religious teachings.

The session was presided over by Mr. P.S. Umar Farooq, President of JIH Coimbatore Metro, who explained the movement’s focus on morality and the urgent need to strengthen society’s moral fabric. In his opening address, he highlighted the critical role morality plays in ensuring true freedom and justice in society.

The event featured prominent speakers from various faiths, including Guruji Shivathma, founder of the Sarva Dharma Federation and leader of the Prabanjha Samadhi Seva Ashram; Rev. Fr. P. Arokia Thaddeus, Principal and Trustee of Carmel Garden Matriculation Higher Secondary School; and Maulavi M.M. Mohammed Ismail Imthadi, Chief Imam of Masjidul Ihsan.

Each speaker shared insights from their respective religions, emphasizing the universal importance of morality in shaping human behavior and societal harmony.

The program commenced with the recitation of sacred scriptures by Mr. Ashik and Mr. Ansari, followed by a welcome address by Mr. Abdul Hakeem, Public Relations Secretary of JIH Coimbatore. Special guests at the event included Dr. Agnes MBBS., MD., RMO of St. Mary’s Hospital, and Fr. Wilson, Director of Divyodaya.

In her concluding remarks, Mrs. Jaheena Ahmed, Women’s Wing President of JIH Coimbatore Metro, expressed gratitude to the attendees and reiterated the importance of embracing morality in daily life. The event concluded with participants taking a collective oath to lead morally upright lives.

The event drew a diverse audience, including members of different faith communities. Attendees were provided with leaflets and books related to the ‘Morality is Freedom’ campaign. Many expressed appreciation for the comprehensive perspectives shared and called for more such interfaith dialogues to be organized in the future.
