Mangalore: An interfaith Iftar at Yenepoya School Ground, Jeppinamogaru, brought together dignitaries and community leaders to celebrate Ramadan and promote unity.
Organized by Dr. N. Vinaya Hegde (Nitte University Chancellor), Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha (Mangalore Bishop), and Dr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi (Yenepoya University Chancellor), the event fostered interfaith harmony.
Bishop Saldanha stressed communal harmony, urging people to understand each other. He highlighted Ramadan’s message of humanity and brotherhood, especially in tough times.
Dr. Shantharam Shetty (Pro-Chancellor, Nitte) emphasized that Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism preach love, unity, and coexistence, citing scriptures on universal brotherhood.
Dr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi called the event a step toward interfaith understanding. “The best religion is humanity,” he said, reaffirming Prophet Mohammed’s message of peace.
At sunset, Ustad Salman led the azaan, and attendees broke their fast together in a warm atmosphere of togetherness.
Distinguished guests included Karnataka Assembly Speaker UT Khader, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Farhaad Yenepoya, Prof. Dr. UT Iftikhar Ali, and other leaders.
The event reinforced that religious diversity can unite society through dialogue and understanding.
